George Carlin – My Non-Genetic Father

No. He’s not my father. But he might as well have been.
Like George Carlin, I was raised in a totalitarian Catholic environment, intolerant of questions or individual thoughts.
“At the age of enlightenment, I realized that religion was all bullshit…at about twelve years old.”
How enlightened, indeed. As a staunch Irish catholic it took some guts to actually stand up and say, “Hey! Wait a minute. Your mind-fucking us!” For in those days of Howdy-Doody and Captain Kangaroo where all good buys and girls do as their told, Carlin said, “I don’t buy it.”
I would know. I said the same thing. I still do. Religion is a fraud that has used and abused people since its inception. That is not to say, SPIRITUALITY is dead. On the contrary, it is the CONSCIONCE of George Carlin and I to DEFY ridicule, scorn, and every church-manufactured condemnation to WARN folks that THINKING for themselves is a good thing. It is intellectually FREE people that QUESTION their institutions, in the hopes of bettering ourselves and perhaps our nation.
I think most would agree Carlin did his best damage against the Social conservative grasp on the Republican Party that has become leech-like. His sweetest postulation of Republican hypocrisy was when he asked how many Conservatives would help FEED AND CLOTH all those unwanted pregnancies whose lives they fought so hard to protect. “After your born you get fucked.” He pushed it over the edge when asking HOW many Conservatives would even consider carrying an unborn fetus of a poor black woman. “But this is something JUSUS would do.” as he wryly pointed out.
As our biosphere disintegrates from the Oil Dictatorship, Carlin warned us that the “Earth will shake off the human inhabitant’s like a dog shaking off parasitic fleas.” This analogy gripped me like no other, as it hit so close to home. While we INTENTIONALLY allow our food chain to dissipate for profit, George Carlin’s comedy rings loud as a prophecy. But he would deny this, as he never believed in prophets.
Many heard George Carlin. But few listened.
Carlin never missed an opportunity to “critique” the Catholic institution, as I have done. However, Carlin’s sharp wit, his stinging observations put that “theory” to the ultimate test. This would not be a test of faith, but a test of common sense where many fail to see through the traditional bullshit.
But unlike George Carlin, I really don’t care if people listen to me, as I have a kink of watching people fall flat on their faces right after being told how to avoid it.
And most eerily similar to Carlin is my innate ability to tell things the way they are, despite consequences. Harry Truman had this “truth” problem as well and also is on my top three people, along with Hunter S. Thompson.
I mentioned only a few of the great gems by George Carlin. I cannot recommend his humor enough as it causes painful spasm of joy when I sample only a minute or so.
As Carlin’s spirit wretched itself from mortal flesh, I felt the foundation of my beliefs pass from the physical and into the immortal for the ages to appreciate. He has brought me happiness and laughter for three decades plus and look forward to the rest of my days laughing with him to the end.
Like Hunter S. Thompson & Harry S. Truman, I now carry George Carlin deep within my heart and soul. Their warm feeling lights up my spirit like a Spielberg saucer and I love it.!
Most Sincerely,
CJ Davidson, reluctant inhabitant of the former planet, Earth
