The Lost Batalion was the Texas 36th Battalion surrounded by all sides and rescued by the 442nd Combat Detatchment. Another great recount of our brave service people of World War II. ~CJ :)

PERFECT EXAMPLE of SLIPPERY SLOPE Argument:
“Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington, DC .
Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there. On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:
‘Yesterday, December 7, 1941-- a date which will live in infamy--the
United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.
One elderly woman read the words aloud:
'With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination
of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.'
But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. 'Wait a minute,' she
said, 'they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most
important part. Roosevelt ended the message with 'so help us God.'
Her husband said, 'You are probably right. We're not supposed to say
things like that now .' WRONG. You can say that anytime you want. “So help me God.” There. I just said it. I say it all the time. No problems. The God thing is an UN-issue. Religion should never have been brought into Government in the first place.
Karl Rove made this an issue in 2004 with his DIRECT MAIL Slippery slope argument "Liberals want to ban the bible." propaganda, when actually, you simply had folks who wanted less religion in Government and MORE SCIENCE.
As a manipulative, Political tool, we fail to READ the meaning of the message: “Resolve and Determination of the brave men and women who served our Country”, rather than nitpick about an optional phrase that doesn't change it’s meaning...one way or another.
If you believe. Fine. If you don't believe. Fine. That's what America is actually about---The freedom to choose...or not at all.
As far as changing historical text...I am strongly against it.

In Closing, I’d like to tell you about a little known Military Engagement from World War II called the Lost Battalion:
TIME: 1944 after the breakout at Normandy. The place: The Vouge Mountains outside the German borders. Having pushed the Nazis back into the Reich, Allied troops set their sights on Berlin, cutting straight through heavily fortified, thick forests and mountain strongholds.
U.S. Army, Major General John E Dahlquist, who had been reprimanded and nearly lost his command for lagging behind, ordered his troops, The Texas 36th Battalion, survivors of Italy and the Battle of Monte Cassino to take the town of Fontaine and San. Despite advice from his veteran officers, Dahlquist attacked dug-in killing zones, with heavy casualties...then abandoned it, then tried to re-take it after the Germans recaptured it. As the Texas 36th Battalion were attacked and surrounded from 3 sides.
Dahlquist sent the Japanese American 442nd Combat Detachment, freed from Internment camps, were sent in to rescue the Texas 36th Battalion, now running out of food, water and ammo. After 3 attempts, I company and K Company went crazy and charged through the German lines losing 400 men to rescue 230. As the Japanese Americans 442nd approached the mauled Lost 36th Texas Battalion, the first white guy guy came out and said...
“I’ve never been so glad to see a jap in my life!”
